Following the excellent results of the "Makis" in 2012 (promotion to Group A for seniors and the U19), the Malagasy State has decided to offer rugby the tool that was still lacking; a stadium entirely dedicated to the king sport.
"Stade Makis" as it has been baptised by M. Andry Rajoelina, President of the Transition, is on the dyke road at approximately 4 kms from the centre of Antananarivo. With a capacity of 15,000 seats, it will be able to receive national competitions previously held in Malacam Stadium and, which has a capacity of 2,000 to 3,000 people and regularly received 7,000 to 8,000 with as many supporters having to remain outside.
Fitted with a weights room and a training ground, it will undeniably be a plus for the preparation of national teams. In addition, in the coming weeks, it will host the Malagasy Rugby Union's new offices, infrastructure that the FMR was sorely lacking.
Finally, to further highlight the passion that the Malagasy people have for rugby, it is worth noting that for the inauguration of the "Stade Makis", not less than 25,000 people invaded the pitch and took part in the festivities linked to this event.
