Bernard Lapasset re-elected as the Head of IRB

With 14 votes to 12, Frenchman Bernard Lapasset was re-elected on Monday 12 December 2011 in Los Angeles by the IRB World Council.
He was preferred in the first round of voting to Englishman Bill Beaumont, currently Vice Chairman and only other candidate in contention. Bernard Lapasset re-enlists for a term in office of 4 years that will take effect from 1st January.
Bernard Lapasset, 64 years old, ex-Chairman of the French Rugby Federation (1991-2008) has been holding this appointment since 1st January 2008, date at which he had succeeded to Irishman Syd Millar.
For his part, the Chairman of the South African Rugby Union, Oregan Hoskins, was elected IRB’s Vice Chairman.
