Sevens World Series: South Africa and Kenya are off again!

The Gold Coast Sevens that will take place on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 November in Australia will be the Sevens Rugby 2011/2012 world circuit’s kick off with the participation of 2 African representatives: South Africa and Kenya.

South Africa who ended second last year, with 3 tournaments won (USA Sevens, London and Scotland) is leading in Pool B and will play against Australia, the United-States and Japan.

The South-African selector, Paul Treu, banks on experience by keeping the same squad as last year, among whom Cécil Afrika, voted best Sevens Rugby player by IRB.

The team: Chris Dry, Kyle Brown (captain), Frankie Horne, Boom Prinsloo, Chase Minnaar, Paul Delport, Renfred Dazel, Mark Richards, Steven Hunt, Bernado Botha, Robert Ebersohn,William Small-Smith, Cecil Afrika, Branco du Preez.

On the Kenyan side, (9th last year), the draw placed them in Pool A, by the side of the title holder New-Zealand, Fiji, and Niue this small Pacific Ocean island that is making a comeback in the world circuit.

Mitch Ocholla, recently appointed selector banks on revival by integrating 4 new recruits: Sidney Ashioya, Isaiah Moseti, Christopher Asego, Michael Agevi, William Ambaka, Dennis Ombachi , Tony Onyango, Horace Otieno, Charles Kanyi, Patrice Agunda, Oscar Ouma, Andrew Amonde.

The Kenyan coach’s target is to end in the top 5 at the end of the season.

.1st match for the Kenyans on Friday against New-Zealand, South Africa will start the competition by playing against the United-States.
