Yesterday, Sanzar, regrouping the southern hemisphere’s great nations, made official Argentina’s entry into the Tri-Nations tournament from 2012, following lengthy months of negotiations with IRB.
The competition regrouping New-Zealand, Australia and South Africa is at the same time renamed Rugby Championship and comes in a new format: from now on, it will consist of 6 first-leg matches, 6 return matches and will be played over one and a half month compared to one month previously.
For the South African Rugby Union’s president, Jurie Roux, the integration of Argentina "is a radical change" for the southern hemisphere, it’s a great day for rugby. It recognises the rich history and passion for rugby in this country».
The 2012 competition will take place from the 18th of August to the 6th of October. The Pumas will make their entry into the competition by a trip to South Africa on 18 August.
