Elgon Cup in Nairobi
- Friday, 08 July 2011 05:50
Triangular tournament regrouping Kenya, Zimbabwe
and Uganda each year, Elgon was born in 2010 in its current form.
Besides better exposure for rugby, the aim of this competition is to give to its three nations more opportunities to play more international matches and therefore to ensure a better place in the IRB "ranking", to prepare as best as possible for the Africa Cup and the RWC qualifiers.
The 2011 edition started on 25 June 2011 with a beautiful victory of Zimbabwe against Kenya (42-24) in Harare and this Saturday (09 July), the second round will see Kenya play against Uganda in Nairobi's RFUEA Grounds. After its defeat against Zimbabwe by 15-25 during the Africa Cup Tournament Group B, Uganda will probably come with a strong revenge spirit and, since Kenya has not lost on its grounds since 2006, this promises to be a serious and tough match. In any case, this will be a decisive match since the loser will most probably lose any possibility of victory in this competition.
Elgon Cup will also be conjugated in the feminine form since to start, the Kenyan Women's team will meet the Ugandan team that will try to stop its opponent that has been winning the trophy for the last two years from winning it again.
